Wearside band Frankie & the Heartstrings have been announced as this year’s headline act at the Sunderland Summer Streets festival.
The indie band will take the main slot at the annual event set to take place at Thompson Park, Southwick.
Joining the lads from Pop Recs on the bill is a host of local talent including: Warm Digits, Oompah Brass band, Sunderland Symphony Orchestra strings, Dennis, Picnic and the Heavenly Thrillbillies as well as many more.
Heading into its fourth year, the festival, organised by The Cultural Spring and Ross Millard of the Futureheads, aims to celebrate the best of music, art and community in the city of Sunderland.
Last year’s event saw crowds of more than 8,000 people across the two-day event flock to see Field Music and a host of other talents from the North East.
While the festival will only take place over one day, festival-goers can look forward to a filled day of free music, comedy for children and a wide variety of workshops running from midday onwards.
The festival is part of a push to boost arts and culture across Tyne and Wear and comes as Sunderland bids for the next City of Culture award.
Sunderland’s Summer Street festival will take place on Saturday, July 15. Entry to the event is free.
